Objective
|
The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) has traditionally been the principal organ at the District level to oversee the implementation of different anti poverty programmes. The primary objective of DRDA Schemes is to professionalize the DRDAs so that they are able to effectively manage the anti poverty programmes of the Ministry of Rural Development and interact effectively with other agencies.
The main objectives of the agency are -
• To identify the families living below the poverty line through survey conducted by the govt. servants working at field level.
• To give financial assistance to these B.P.L. families through banks and govt. sponsored schemes.
• To draw up model plans through technical departments, for executing the labour generating schemes such as Employment Assurance Scheme.

| DRDA, Saiha |
District Rural Development, Saiha has been the principal organ at the District level to oversee the implementation of different anti-poverty programmes of the Ministry of Rural Development. It was established in 1981 under the chairmanship of the Shri N.L. Chakma, I.A.S., the Deputy Commissioner, Saiha. Ever since its inception, it has been implementing the anti-poverty programmes of Central Government in collaboration with the Tuipang and Saiha RD Blocks. The office of DRDA was initially headed by Project Officers till 1992 when Project Officer was re-designated as Project Director as shown in the list of incumbents below:

Governing Body of DRDA
|
The Governing Body is the highest body of DRDA. All Schemes and Projects will be approved by the Governing Body of DRDA according to the Guidelines/ Instructions of the Government. Before sanction of any Scheme, approval of the Governing Body of DRDA may be obtained wherever expedient. The chairman of DRDA, Saiha is the Deputy Commissioner and the Project Director is the Member Secretary. The chairman in his capacity presides over the meetings of the Governing Body of the DRDA and the Project Director will be fully responsible for the successful execution of the relevant Schemes, Projects and Observation of the Central/ State Guidelines in terms of maintenance of Accounts and Compliance procedure.

Administration
|
From 01 April, 1989 a separate DRDA Administration has been introduced to take care of administrative cost. This aims at strengthening DRDAs and makes them more professional in managing the anti-poverty programmes and be an effective link between the ministry and the District level.
